Installing a datapack

There are multiple ways of installing a Datapack if you're playing modded Minecraft but in this guide we will focus on the purely Vanilla method of adding a Datapack to your world.

Using the datapack folder

Every world folder has a datapacks folder in which you can place the datapack you want to install.

The following steps will guide you through installing a datapack into the world

1. Locate the World Folder:

  • Minecraft Launcher:
    • Open the Minecraft Launcher.
    • Navigate to the Installations tab.
    • Hover over the desired installation and click the folder icon.
    • Access the saves folder and open the corresponding world folder.
  • In-Game:
    • Go to Resource Packs.
    • Press the Open Pack Folder button.
    • Navigate back to the saves folder and open the desired world folder.

2. Copy Datapack:

  • Open the datapacks folder within the world folder.
  • Copy the datapack into this folder.

Additional Methods (Windows)

NOTE

This is assuming you're using the Minecraft Launcher and have not changed the Game Directory

  • Using Run Command:

    • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
    • Enter %appdata%\.minecraft and click OK.
    • Access the saves folder and open the corresponding world folder.
  • Using File Explorer:

    • Open any folder (File Explorer).
    • Enter %appdata%\.minecraft in the address bar and press Enter.
    • Open the saves folder and open the corresponding world folder.

Additional Method (MacOS)

NOTE

This is assuming you're using the Minecraft Launcher and have not changed the Game Directory

  • Using Spotlight:
    • Copy ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft into Spotlight search.
    • Press Enter to access the Minecraft directory.
    • Open the saves folder and open the corresponding world folder.
